As many of you have already experienced, the population of mosquitos seems to have grown exponentially since Hurricane Florence. Some of these mosquitos can carry viruses that may cause illnesses such as West Niles. Brunswick County has begun spraying to help reduce the population. In the meantime, homeowners and visitors to the island should take extra precautions to prevent mosquito bites. This includes applying mosquito repellant, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants and avoiding going outside at dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active.
